Industry 4.0 has been identified as a major contributor to the era of digitalisation. Its implications for sustainable development have gained widespread attention from perspectives triple bottom line, business models and circular economy. The purpose this paper is map broad field investigate key research areas which comprises aforementioned under framework. A systematic mapping review was conducted by searching five databases relevant literature published between January 1, 2012 April 17, 2020. search yielded 4291 papers 81 were primary herein. findings are that majority sustainability focuses on conceptual analysis, Internet Things dominantly cited with an emphasis achieving line benefits. Sustainable in context contributes economic objectives social, economic, environmental Triple studies mainly focus adoption implementation, supply chains, smart cities, factories. Circular economy emerging themes well chains. Our analysis consolidates patterns both literature. Furthermore, it identifies salient gaps suggests future research. • evolution demands systemic ways .
